Treatable Conditions with Medical Marijuana in Florida
In 2017, Amendment 2 expanded Florida’s medical cannabis program, broadening patient access well beyond what was allowed under the Compassionate Use Act of 2014, which limited treatment to cancer and epilepsy. The Right to Try Act of 2016 further expanded eligibility by permitting full-strength cannabis for terminally ill patients.
Amendment 2 removed the prior “90-day wait period” and established clear operational guidelines for physicians and patients. Most importantly, it introduced a flexible “all other debilitating conditions” clause, granting doctors discretion in recommending medical cannabis for patients with unlisted but comparable medical issues.
